2 To compare qualities of people or things that are the same or equal:
Use this formula: Tan + adjective or adverb + como 1.Mi papá es tan alto como Shaq. (My dad is as tall as Shaq) 2.El carro es tan rápido como la moto. The car is as fast as the motorcycle. 3. Yo soy tan inteligente como Einstein. I’m as intelligent as Einstein.

3 ¡Vamos a practicar! 1. Beyoncé is as pretty as Rachel McAdams.
Beyoncé es tan bonita como Rachel McAdams . 2. My boyfriend (novio) is as good looking as Channing Tatum. Mi novio es tan guapo como Channing Tatum.

4 Continúa… 3. I am as talented as Michael Jackson.
Soy tan talentoso/a como Michael Jackson. 4. Juan is as nice as Winnie the Pooh. Juan es tan simpático como Winnie the Pooh.

5 To compare quantities that are the same or equal…
Tanto/ tantos + noun + como Tanta/tantas + noun + como 1. Maria tiene tantos amigos como Juan. (Maria has as many guy friends as Juan.) 2. Maria tiene tantas bolsas como yo. (Maria has as many bags as me.)

6 ¡Vamos a practicar! 1. I have as many cats as Joey.
Yo tengo tantos gatos como Joey. 2. Patricia has as much homework as Erika. Patricia tiene tanta tarea como Erika. 3. Yolanda eats as many chimichangas as Rosario. Yolanda come tantas chimichangas como Rosario.

7 Irregular Comparisons
bueno/a (good): mejor (better) malo/a (bad): peor (worse) grande (big, grown adult): mayor (bigger, older) pequeño (small): menor (smaller) joven (young): menor (younger) viejo/a (old): mayor (older)

8 Using the comparative forms
When grande and pequeño refer to age, the irregular comparative forms, mayor and menor, are used. Ex. Yo soy menor que tú. (I am younger than you.) Ex. Nuestro hijo es mayor que el hijo de Marta. (Our son is older than Marta’s son)

9 More examples However, when these adjectives refer to size, the regular forms, más grande and más pequeño/a, are used. Ex. El plato de Isabel es más grande que el plato de Mateo. (Isabel’s dish is bigger than Mateo’s dish.) Ex. Pedí un plato más pequeño. (I ordered a smaller dish.)

10 Using adverbs The adverbs bien and mal have the same irregular comparative forms as the adjectives bueno/a and malo/a. Ex. Julio nada mejor que sus amigos. (Julio swims better than his friends.) Ex. Ellas cantan peor que sus amigas. (They sing worse than their friends.)
