NO = NO / NOT No means “no”! No, gracias. No, thank you. No also means “not” It goes BEFORE the verb in Spanish

NO = NO / NOT Examples: Ella no es jugador de volibol. She is not a volleyball player. Mis amigos no quieren asistir al partido de fútbol. My friends don’t want to attend the soccer game.

NO = NO / NOT Practice: She is not very tall. No, I don’t want to go to the game. My cousins don’t play sports. Ella no es muy alta. No, no quiero ir al partido. Mis primos no juegan los deportes.

But in Spanish it is perfectly fine! Nunca = Never / Ever Nunca can replace “no” I don’t go to the beach No voy a la playa. I never go to the beach. Nunca voy a la playa. Nunca can be added to the end of a sentence that already has “no” I don’t go to the beach ever. No voy a la playa nunca. This is called a “double negative” in English, and we cannot do it! (I don’t never go to the beach) But in Spanish it is perfectly fine!

Nunca = Never / Ever Practice: I never study for Spanish class. My dad never cooks dinner. We never watch the TV. Nunca estudio para la clase de español. No estudio para la clase de español nunca. Mi padre nunca cocina la cena. Mi padre no cocina la cena nunca. Nunca vemos la televisión. No vemos la televisión nunca.

Tampoco = Neither / Either Tampoco can replace “no” I don’t go to the pool either. Tampoco voy a la piscina. Tampoco can be added to the end of a sentence that already has “no” No voy a la piscina tampoco.

Tampoco = Neither / Either Practice: We don’t like to clean either. Her aunt doesn’t cut the lawn either. I don’t want to take out the trash either. Tampoco nos gusta limpiar. No nos gusta limpiar tampoco. Su tía tampoco corta el césped. Su tía no corta el césped tampoco. Tampoco quiero sacar la basura. No quiero sacar la basura tampoco.

Translate to Spanish IN BOTH WAYS: I don’t cook either.

Nadie = Nobody / Anybody Use “nadie” in place of “nobody” Nobody wants to wash the dishes. Nadie quiere lavar los platos. Nobody in my family wears glasses. Nadie en mi familia usa lentes.

Nadie = Nobody / Anybody (cont.) If “nadie” comes after the verb, you must also add “no” before the verb There isn’t anybody that knows the answer. No hay nadie que sabe la respuesta. I don’t know anybody. No conozco a nadie.

Nadie = Nobody / Anybody Practice: Nobody makes the beds. Nobody wants to vacuum. There isn’t anyone in the garden. pasar la aspiradora – to vacuum Nadie hace las camas. Nadie quiere pasar la aspiradora. No hay nadie en el jardín.

Nada = Nothing / Not Anything Use “nada” in place of “nothing” Nothing is easy. Nada es fácil. Nothing is in the fridge. Nada está en el frigo.

Nada = Nothing / Not Anything If “nada” comes after the verb, you must also add “no” before the verb I don’t have to do anything tonight. No tengo que hacer nada esta noche. My sister doesn’t do anything for me. Mi hermana no hace nada para mí.
