Time Expression with Hacer Use hacer to describe an action that began in the past and has continued into the present time. (to talk about how long something has been happening.) –You only use the present tense of the verb: “hace”

Time Expression with Hacer Formula Hace + time+ que+ present tense verb I have been studying Spanish for 3 years. Hace tres años que estudio español. They have been studying English for 5 years. Hace cinco años que ellos estudian inglés.

Practice Use: Hace + time+ que+ present tense verb 1. Ellos correr 2 meses. They have been running for 2 months. 2. Yo jugar al golf 7 días. I have been playing golf for 7 days. 3. Tú cocinar 3 años. You have been cooking for 3 years.

In order to ask what length of time an action has been taking place use the following formula: ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que present tense verb? –¿–¿Cuánto? may change if the vocabulary for time is masculine or feminine and singular and plural.

Hace cuatro años que quiero viajar a España. - I have been wanting to travel to Spain for 4 years. ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que estudias el español? –How long have you studied Spanish. ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que eres un miembro del equipo de hockey? -- How long have you been a member of the hockey team. Hace seis horas que no como. –I have not eaten in 6 hours.
