2 To conjugate regular verbs:

5 Talking about what happened in the past
In Spanish, you show who does an action by how you conjugate it; you choose the verb ending depending on who the subject is. I want to say “I speak,” so… -ar verbs -er verbs -ir verbs -o -amos -emos -imos -as X -es -a -an -e -en ¡Hablo!

You also show when they did the action by how you conjugate it; there are different sets of endings for saying when someone did something…

8 Preterito (Past Tense) Endings
To conjugate verbs in the past tense: Drop the ending (-ar, -er, or -ir) Choose a preterite ending depending on who the subject is: I want to say “I spoke,” so… -ar verbs -er verbs -ir verbs -é -amos -í -imos -aste X -iste -ó -aron -ió -ieron ¡Hablé!

ayer (yesterday) anoche (last night) esa noche (that night) esta mañana (this morning) el viernes pasado (last Friday) el fin de semana pasado (last weekend) Ayer, yo __ (bailar) con mi amiga Rosa. Anoche, nosotros (comer) en un restaurante. Tú (abrir) la puerta de la cocina esta mañana. ¿Quién (patinar) en la biblioteca el martes pasado? Los atletas (salir) después del partido. El fin de semana pasado, Juan (hablar) con su novia por teléfono.

11 Preterite of ir Irregular verbs—of course—have irregular preterite forms, as well. Ir (to go) is conjugated the following way: Present Tense voy vamos vas X va van Past Tense fui fuimos fuiste X fue fueron Voy al centro comercial. = I am going to the mall. Fui al centro comercial. = I went to the mall.
