To whom or for whom

 Indirect objects are nouns or pronouns that tell to whom or for whom the action takes place in a sentence.  Aunt Lola sends us gifts.  To whom does Aunt Lola send gifts? ==US!  I made a cake for Mickey.  For whom did I make the cake? ==Mickey!

 Use the same words as Direct Object Pronouns except for le and les.  Me (for me)  Te (for you)  Le (for him, her, you)  Nos (for us)  Os (for you)  Les (for them, ya’ll)

 The pronouns le and les can refer to a variety of people.  To clarify what they mean, they are often accompanied by an “a phrase”  (a + a pronoun or a noun)  Le doy las joyas. ▪ I’m giving the jewelry to him/ her/ you.  Le doy las joyas a Juana. ▪ I’m giving the jewelry to Juana.

 When a conjugated verb is followed by an infinitive, the same rules for placement apply as for direct object pronouns.  The pronoun can be placed BEFORE the conjugated verb or ATTACHED to the end of the infinitive.  Les voy a comprar recuerdos a mis amigos.  Voy a comprarles recuerdos a mis amigos. ▪ I am going to buy souvenirs for my friends.

This, That, These, Those, That (over there), Those (over there)

 They are placed BEFORE the noun in both English and Spanish.  This necklace is expensive.  That man looks funny.  In Spanish demonstrative adjectives must match the nouns they modify in GENDER (masculine or feminine) and NUMBER (singular or plural).

MASCULINEFEMININE The phrase that pays: THIS has a “t” and an “s” (este), THAT doesn’t (ese)!
