Apuntes el 24 de septiembre SER con posesión (SER with possession) To ask about possession, we use the questions ¿De quién es? Whose is it? ¿De quién(es) son? Whose are they?

¿De quién es el cuaderno? -Es el cuaderno de la profesora. Whose notebook is it?-It’s the teacher’s notebook. ¿De quiénes son las maletas?-Son las maletas de Rafael. Whose suitcases are they?-They’re Rafael’s suitcases.

Spanish does not use ‘s to show possession. You must use de before the possessor. Inglés (English)Español (Spanish) Juan’s handla mano de Juan Julieta’s countryel país de Julieta the teacher’s mapel mapa del profesor

When de is followed by the article el, the two combine to form the contraction del. De does not contract with la, los or las. Son los lápices del chico. They’re the boy’s pencils. Es la computadora del pasajero. It’s the passenger’s computer.

It’s possible to leave out nouns. ¿De quién es el diccionario?-Es de María. Whose dictionary is it?-It’s Maria’s.
