VERBS LIKE GUSTAR

Review: GUSTAR *Remember that the verb GUSTAR is not used like other verbs. You don’t conjugate GUSTAR into each form like you normally do with most verbs

STEP 1: First, begin with following: A mí me… A ti te… A (él, ella, Ud.) le… A nosotros nos… A (ellos, ellas, Uds.) les..

Step 2: Then, for all forms, add:  Gusta = when talking about only ONE thing  Gustan = When talking about MORE THAN ONE THING

A mí me gusta… A mí me gustan… A ti te gusta… A ti te gustan… A él, ella, Ud. le gusta… A él ella, Ud. le gustan… A nosotros nos gusta… A nosotros nos gustan… A ellos, ellas, uds. les gusta… A ellos, ellas, uds. les gustan…

Examples: I like the cat = A mí me gusta el gato. I like cats = A mí me gustan los gatos. We like to read = A nosotros nos gusta leer.

I like the cat = A mí me gusta el gato. I like cats = A mí me gustan los gatos. We like to read = A nosotros nos gusta leer.

Verbs Like Gustar: There are several other verbs that are used in the same way.

Encantar = To love (NOT romantically), To really like A mí me encanta esquiar. A mí me encanta la música de Beyonce. A tu padre le encantan motocicletas.

Fascinar = to fascinate A Bill Gates le fascinan las computadoras. A los ratones les fascina el queso.

Molestar = To bother, annoy A nosotros nos molestan los mosquitos.

Importar = To be important to / To care about A mi me importan mis clases y notas. ¿A ti te importan tus amigos?

Faltar = To lack, To need A mí me falta un lápiz. A ti te falta el dinero para comprar el coche. ¿Dónde está mi lápiz?

Interesar = To be interested in A los vegetarianos no les interesa la carne. ¡A nosotros nos intersa el español!

Parecer = To seem, to appear A mí me parece divertido esquiar. ¿A ti te parece aburrida o interesante la clase?

Doler (o  ue) = To hurt A mí me duele la espalda. A nosotros nos duelen los pies.
