Las hermanas se abrazan. La mamá y la hija se despiden.

Roberto y Laura se dan la mano. Ellos se abrazan.

Mi mamá y yo nos amamos. Mi mamá y yo nos abrazamos.

In all of the previous examples, “se” and “nos” represent each other Los pájaros se besan The birds kiss each other.

Nosotros nos abrazamos. We hug each other.

Reciprocal verbs are similar to reflexive verbs, BUT they only use the reflexive pronouns “se” or “nos”. 1.) We hugged each other. Nosotros nos abrazamos. 2.) Lupita and Carlos kissed each other 3.) Natalia and I called each other on the phone. Lupita y Carlos se besaron. Natalia y yo nos llamamos por telefono.

Is this a reciprocal action? NO!! ¿Por qué no? In this case, only one person is performing the action upon the other. La muchacha besa a su novio. The girl kisses her boyfriend. OR La muchacha le da un beso a su novio. The girl gives a kiss to her boyfriend.
