Present Perfect o Préterito Perfecto In Spanish, like in English, the present perfect describes what HAS HAPPENED. In general it refers to recently completed actions or to a past that still is relevant to the present. This is a commonly used verb tense that is most often used just as it translates, “has/have done” or it is used in situations where one could also use the pretérito! SO…. This is considered a compound tense. In other words there are 2 main parts to it.

Formation of Present Perfect 2 PARTS! Haber + Past Participle Haber in Present (makes sense right? Present Perfect) Forms: he, has, ha, hemos, han [don’t forget! Silent H!] This is the “has/have” Yo he – I have Nosotros hemos- we have Tú has – you have Él/ella/Ud ha – he/she has ellos/Uds you havehan  they /you have

PART 2 - PAST PARTICIPLE Form the past participle by dropping the –er –ir –ar and adding – ido or – ado. Ensayar -> ensay -> ensayado “rehearsed” Vivir -> viv-> vivido “lived” Comer -> com -> comido “eaten”

Ahora - Put it together La actriz ha ensayado mucho. _______________________________ _ He comido muchos dulces esta semana. _______________________________ _ Sí, ellos han vivido en España. _______________________________ _

Things to remember Any pronouns will go before the form of HABER Mi padre me ha dado su coche antes. Yo me he despertado temprano cada día. Any negatives will be in front of pronoun or form of haber Yo no me he despertado temprano. The past participle never changes! Always ends in O. Hablado, caminado, mirado etc

Participios Pasados Irregulares. There are some irregular past particples (of course!) Hacer -> hecho -> Decir-> dicho -> Poner -> puesto-> Ver -> visto-> Romper -> roto-> Volver -> vuelto-> Resolver -> resuelto-> Morir -> muerto->

y…. Escribir -> escrito-> Descubrir -> descubierto-> Cubrir -> cubierto-> Abrir -> abierto-> You can also use past participles in other ways, for example with SER and ESTAR. However, that is a discussion for another day!
