4 Y ya saben el camino para llegar al lugar a donde voy”. 5 Entonces Tomás le dijo: “Señor, no sabemos a dónde vas, ¿cómo podemos saber el camino?” 6 Jesús le respondió: “Yo soy el camino, la verdad y la vida. Nadie va al Padre si no es por mí. 7 Si ustedes me conocen a mí, conocen también a mí Padre. Ya desde ahora lo conocen y lo han visto”.

8 Le dijo Felipe: “Señor, muéstranos al Padre y eso nos basta”. 9 Jesús le replicó: “Felipe, tanto tiempo hace que estoy con ustedes, ¿ y todavía no me conoces? Quien me ve a mí, ve al Padre. ¿Entonces por qué dices: ‘Muéstranos al Padre’? 10 ¿ 0 no crees que yo estoy en el Padre y que el Padre está en mí? Las palabras que yo les digo, no las digo por mi propia cuenta. Es el Padre, que permanece en mí, quien hace las obras.

11 Créanme: yo estoy en el Padre y el Padre está en mí 11  Créanme: yo estoy en el Padre y el Padre está en mí. Si no me dan fe a mí, créanlo par las obras. 12 Yo les aseguro: el que crea en mí, hará las obras que hago yo y las hará aún mayores, porque yo me voy al Padre”. Palabra del Señor

Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.

May 18, 2014 Today is the Fifth Sunday of Easter. The first reading for Mass is from Acts 6:1-7. After Jesus had risen, the number of disciples continued to grow. The Holy Spirit that Jesus had given the Apostles continued to guide them as they chose the first deacons. They devoted themselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word. They shared what Jesus had taught them at the Last Supper.

Hoy es el Quinto Domingo de Pascua Hoy es el Quinto Domingo de Pascua. La primera lectura para la Misa es de Hechos 6:1-7. Después de que Jesús se levanto de la muerte, el numero de discípulos seguía creciendo. El Espirito Santo que Jesús concedió a los Apóstoles continuaba guiándolos a escoger los primeros diáconos. Ellos se dedicaban a la oración y al ministerio de la palabra. Compartían lo que Jesús les enseño en la Ultima Cena.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me” (John 14:1). Jesus with these words tries to calm the apostles as his passion and death were approaching. Just as they trust in God, he wants them to trust in him.

“No pierdan la paz. Si creen en Dios, crean también en mí” (Juan 14:1) “No pierdan la paz. Si creen en Dios, crean también en mí” (Juan 14:1). Con estas palabras Jesús trata de calmar a los apóstoles al aproximar su pasión y muerte. Así como confían en Dios, Él quiere que confíen en Él.

St. Chrysostom (Homilies on the Gospel of John 73:1) notes that in effect Jesus was saying to them that faith in him and in the Father who begot him is more powerful than anything that would come against them. God would not allow any evil thing to prevail against them. Ultimately, for the one who believes that Jesus is divine, that should be his ultimate source of confidence.

San Crisóstomo (Homilías Acerca del Evangelio de Juan 73:1) nota que en efecto Jesús les estaba diciendo que la fe en Él y en el Padre que lo engendró es más poderoso que cualquier cosa que los oponga. Dios no permitirá ninguna cosa mala prevalecer sobre ellos. Ultimadamente, para uno que cree en Jesús como divino, eso ha de ser la última fuente de su confianza.

Cyril of Alexandria (Commentary on the Gospel of John 9) observes that when the disciples were suffering with the anxieties of fear, Jesus commands them to cling to the intense power of faith.

Cirilio de Alejandría (Comentario Acerca del Evangelio de Juan 9) observa que cuando los discípulos estaban sufriendo con ansiedad de miedo, Jesús les manda abrazarse al poder intenso de fe.

“Faith is a weapon whose blade is stout and broad; it drives away all cowardice that may spring from the expectation of coming suffering and renders the darts of evildoers utterly void of effect and makes their temptations utterly without profit.”

Hilary of Poiters (On the Trinity 9 Hilary of Poiters (On the Trinity 9.19) says: that when Jesus says “Believe in God, believe also in me” he forbids us to think of him as alone in solitude. He implies that he is God. There is a duty not only to believe in God but also to believe in Jesus as God. “Our Lord speaks in words deliberately chosen, so that whatever he claims for the Father, he signifies in modest language appropriate to himself.”

Hilario de Poiters (Sobre la Trinidad 9 Hilario de Poiters (Sobre la Trinidad 9.19), dice que cuando Jesús dice “Creed en Dios, creed también en mí” Él nos prohíbe pensar de Él como solitario. Esto implica que Él es Dios. “In my Father’s house there are many mansions “In my Father’s house there are many mansions.” Each one of us is a temple of the Holy Spirit. God abides in us. God dwells in us. “In him we move, and live, and have our being” (Acts 17:28). In Spanish we have a saying: “My house is your house”. No higher compliment can be given than to invite someone into your home with these words. This means that he is trustworthy, esteemed, and loved. He is invited to know you and yours in the most intimate space of your life. Not everybody gets this invitation.

Dios vive en nosotros. “En Él vivimos, y nos movemos, y somos” (Hechos 17:28). En Español hay un dicho: “Mi casa es su casa”. No hay un cumplimiento más grande, de invitar a alguien a su casa con estas palabras. Quiere decir que es de confianza, que le estimas, que le amas, que le invites a conocerte a ti y a los tuyos en el lugar mas intimo de tu vida. No se puede dar tal invitación a cualquiera.

Jesus invites us into his Father’s house Jesus invites us into his Father’s house. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be” (John 14:3). How clean a house should we keep, if we know that God abides therein! Squeaky-clean? Yes. Immaculate.

Sí. Inmaculada, sin mancha.

Nothing ought be there that is displeasing to the Lord Nothing ought be there that is displeasing to the Lord. Go to confession often, it is a great help. After all, we sweep our houses often; likewise ought we to do for the house of God. St. Paul said: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19). Let us pray: “In the Name of Jesus! Trash out!” Repeat it, many times. Yes!

Por eso es bueno ir a confesarse de seguido, es una gran ayuda. Si pasamos tanto tiempo limpiando nuestras casas terrenales, ¡cuanto más debemos pasar tiempo limpiando las moradas celestiales! Oremos: “¡Basura fuera, en el Nombre del Señor!” Se repite. Muchas veces. ¡Sí!

Jesus came back after a three-day leave. He rose from the dead Jesus came back after a three-day leave. He rose from the dead! Nothing can separate us from him anymore (Romans 8:39). He comes to us every day, especially in Holy Communion. I just talked to him this morning at Holy Mass, and so can you. He comes to us in prayer. He comes to us in brothers and sisters that are “vessels of clay” (2 Corinthians 4:7). He comes to us in the least of the brethren: the poor, the little people, the neglected, those in need, and those we are to meet this very day.

Meanwhile, St. Augustine (Tractates on the Gospel of John 68 Meanwhile, St. Augustine (Tractates on the Gospel of John 68.2) says: the house of God is the temple of God. “This kingdom of God and kingdom of heaven, is as yet in the process of building, of construction, of preparation, of assembling. There are dwellings in it, even as the Lord is now preparing more of them.”

Theodore of Mopsuestia (Commentary on John 6 Theodore of Mopsuestia (Commentary on John 6.14-2) reminds us that here on earth we have the custom that when space is scarce, we reserve a place to stay in advance, due to the lack of available rooms. Didn’t Jesus say that we should strive to enter by the narrow gate? Many will try to enter by it, and shall not be able (Matthew 7:13). Therefore, I recommend you place your reservations early!

Teodoro de Mopsuestia (Comentario Acerca de Juan 6 Teodoro de Mopsuestia (Comentario Acerca de Juan 6.14-2) nos recuerda que aquí en la tierra tenemos la costumbre de reservar un cuarto antemano cuando vamos de viaje, no vaya ser que el espacio sea limitado. Jesús nos recuerda que muchos trataran de entrar por la puerta angosta, y no podrán entrar (Mateo 7:13). ¡Yo te recomiendo que hagas tu reservación temprano!
