What is the present progressive and the uses of the present progressive. * It describes actions in progress * The action is happening at the time it is being described. (in English) Verb to be + -ing I am waking They are dancing.

Formation of the present progressive Estar + present participle (don’t forget to conjugate Estar) Present participle: For -Ar verbs  stem +ando For -Er and -Ir verbs  stem +iendo Ejemplo: hablando comiendo abriendo

Changes in the present participle (-ing) *unaccented i between two vowels becomes the letter y: leer  leyendo. (the i of -iendo changed to y) Creer  creyendo

More changes -AR and -ER stem changing verbs don’t make a change in the present participle. Almorzar (oue) present Almorzar (no change) present participle. almorzando Entender (eie) present Entender (no change) present participle. entendiendo

But -IR stem changing verbs do make a change but it is different. (goes only half way) Preferir (eie) present Preferir (ei) present participle (preferring) Pedir (ei) present Pedir (ei) present participle (asking) Dormir (oue) present Dormir (oue) present participle (sleeping)

Using pronouns with the present progressive Reflexive pronouns: 1. Attached to the present participle Yo estoy bañándome 2. In front of the conjugated form of estar Yo me estoy bañando When you attach the reflexive pronoun to the participle you must write an accent mark over the participle.
