The verb Ser + Making things agree

Adjetivos Singulares In Spanish, adjectives agree with the noun they are describing. Adjectives agree in gender (masculine or femenine) and number (singular + plural). Fememine adjectives end in “a” or “as” Masculine adjectives end in “o” or “os” Ejemplo: Mónica es alta. Miguel es alto.

Singular forms of Ser (to be) To make a sentence, you need a verb. The verb “ser” means “to be” (I am, she is..) *él/ella means he/she… You can use a person’s name too! (Sarita/Miguel) Yo soy = I am *él/ella, usted es = He, she, you (formal) are Tú eres = You are (familiar)

Ejemplos Let’s see if you get it….. Fill in the blank with the correct form of “ser” + the adjective. Yo ______(ser) ______(bajo/baja). Sandra _____(ser) _________(serio/seria). El chico ____(ser) _________(guapo/guapa). La chica _____(ser) _________(viejo/vieja). Tú (fem.) _____(ser) ______(atlético/ atlética).

Yo soy bajo/baja. (depends on you ) Sandra es seria. El chico es guapo. La chica es vieja. Tú eres atlética. *Notice how the verb and the adjective agree with the subject of the sentence .

Plural forms of Ser (to be) If you are talking about more than one person, you use a plural form of the verb “ser”. Nosotros/ Nosotras somos = We are *y yo = we! Ellos, Ellas, Ustedes son= They, you all are

Adjetivos Plurales When you are describing more than one person, you use plural forms of the adjectives to agree. *To make an adjective plural, add “s”. Ejemplos: Mis amigos son perezosos. See how they agree?? Mis amigas son perezosas.

Las chicas y Pablo = Ellos Whenever a male is in a group….it’s always masculine….no matter how many females!! Las chicas y Pablo = Ellos

Ejemplos Let’s see if you get it…. Los chicos__(ser)___(buenos/buenas). Las profesoras ___(ser) ____(estudiosos/estudiosas). Nosotras _______(ser) _______(bonitos/bonitas). La chica y yo _____(ser) ______(bajos/bajas).

Los chicos son buenos. Las profesoras son estudiosas. Nosotras somos bonitas. La chica y yo somos bajos/bajas. *If “yo” is a boy = bajos *If “yo” is a girl = bajas

Let’s put this all together Try to write the following sentences in Spanish. Use your notes . I am tall. We (masc.) are blond. Mario is organized. María is unorganized. Mario y María are nice.

Yo soy alto/alta. Nosotros somos rubios. Mario es organizado. María es desorganizada. Mario y María son simpáticos. (one boy + one girl = masculine…remember?)
