Por Ejemplo: La mujer quiere que su hija haga la tarea. (subj.) La mujer sabe que su hija hace la tarea. (indic.) La mujer quiere hacer la tarea. (infin.) Escucha esta canción usando el subjuntivo!

La Formación The formation of the present subjunctive is very similar to the Ud. command form of the verb. The root of the verb is the “yo” form of the present indicative with an opposite vowel ending.

La Formación de Verbos Regulares Use the “yo” form of the verb as your stem. Hablar -> hablo Comer -> como Vivir -> vivo

Más Sobre La Formación Add the opposite ending “ar” verbs -e,-es,-e,-emos,-en “er/ir” verbs -a,-as,-a,-amos,-an hablarcomer hablehablemoscomacomamos hablescomas hablehablencomacoman vivir vivavivamos vivas vivavivan

Los Irregulares Dar-> dé, des, dé, demos, den Haber -> haya Saber ->sepa, sepas, sepa, sepamos, sepan Estar -> esté, estés, esté, estemos, estén Ir -> vaya, vayas, vaya, vayamos, vayan Ser -> sea, seas, sea, seamos, sean

Verbos Irregulares Verbs that don’t end in “o” in the first person are irregular in the Present Subjunctive.

Verbs that are irreg. in the “yo” form or have a stem change… Hacer -> yo hago -> haga, hagas, haga, hagamos, hagan Volver -> yo vuelvo -> vuelva, vuelvas, vuelva, volvamos, vuelvan

Uses of the Subjunctive To express will and influence To express emotion To express doubt, disbelief and denial To express indefiniteness and nonexistence

Impersonal Expressions that are always followed by subjunctive Es bueno que… Es importante que… Es mejor que… Es necesario que… Es malo que… Es urgente que… Es bueno que las personas sepan una segunda lengua. Es malo que ellos no hagan la tarea cada noche.

Formula for Subjunctive Main clause + que+Dependent clause Present Indic. +que+Present subj. Es importante que los estudiantes duerman ocho horas cada noche.

Verbs of Will and Influence These verbs always trigger the subjunctive… Aconsejar Desear Importar Insistir (en) Mandar Necesitar Pedir (e-i) Preferir (e-i) Prohibir (accent all but nosotros) Querer (e-ie) Recomendar (e-ie) Rogar (o-ue) Sugerir (e-ie)

Ejemplos: Mi madre prefiere que yo saque la basura. Te sugiero que estudies cada noche. La Sra. Smith quiere que sus estudiantes vengan a la clase. Les recomiendo que barran el suelo.

Los Detalles (details) Indirect object pronouns are often used with the verbs aconsejar, importar, mandar, pedir, prohibir, recomendar, rogar, sugerir The infinitive is used if there is no change of subject.
