What does a direct object pronoun do? A direct object pronoun takes the place of a direct object. For example: Do you have the book? direct object Yes, I have it. direct object pronoun

Direct Object Pronouns in Spanish There are direct pronouns for all forms. Yo: He can see me. Tú/Usted/Ustedes: Did they see you? Nosotros: They can see us. But we are only going to focus on 3rd person for now. Él/Ella Ellos/Ellas

Hint for Things (not people) The definite article (the) is the same as the direct object pronoun EXCEPT masculine singular: el  lo El libro  lo La camisa  la Los libros  Los Las camisas  Las

Placement The placement of Direct Object pronouns is the same as Reflexive pronouns. 1. If the main verb is conjugated, the pronoun goes directly in front of the conjugated verb. I watch it (masc). Yo lo miro.

Placement 2. If the main verb is not conjugated (after: ir a…, acabar de…, tener que…, empezar a..., poder…, querer…, etc.), the pronoun may be attached to the infinitive of the main verb. I am going to watch it (masc). Yo voy a mirarlo.

She sings them (fem.). Ella las canta. direct object pronoun verb

Los estudiantes no la hacen. Negative Sentences The direct object is placed directly in front of the conjugated verb. It cannot be placed in front of “no”. Los estudiantes no la hacen. direct object pronoun verb

Otro ejemplo: Él no las escribe. direct object pronoun verb

¿Van a estudiar las lecciones? Infinitive Phrases ¿Van a estudiar las lecciones? No, no voy a estudiarlas.

¿Quieres tomar el examen ahora? Sí, quiero tomarlo ahora. Otro ejemplo: ¿Quieres tomar el examen ahora? Sí, quiero tomarlo ahora.

¿Vas a mandar la carta? Sí, voy a mandarla. Otro ejemplo: ¿Vas a mandar la carta? Sí, voy a mandarla.
