Past Participles Past participles are equivalent to the –ed ending in English To translate meaning, try putting the words “has” or “have” in front of the English definition

Past Participles Regular verbs -AR verbs add –ado to the stem Hablado Cantado Mirado

Past Participles -ER/-IR verbs add –ido to the stem Comido Debido Vivido Sido

Past Participles Adjectives Like all adjectives, the past participle must agree in number and gender with the noun it modifies La tienda está abierta. Las piñatas están rotas. El libro está cerrado. Los chicos están preocupados.

Past participles In the passive voice, the past participle must also agree in number and gender with the noun it modifies Active Voice Passive Voice María compró la corbata. La corbata fue comprada por María. Los alumnos escribió el reportaje. El reportaje fue escrito por los alumnos.
