Both Spanish and English have PAST PARTICIPLES. PAST PARTICIPLES of ENGLISH verbs often end in –ED (to study-studied) There are IRREGULAR PAST PARTICIPLES (to buy-bought)

3 In Spanish, regular –AR verbs form the past participle with –ADO.

5 The past participles of –ER and –IR verbs whose stems end in –a, -e, or –o carry a WRITTEN ACCENT MARK on the “i” of the –ido ending. caer caído creer creído leer leído oír oído reír reído sonreír sonreído traer traído

6 In Spanish, just like English, past participles can be used as ADJECTIVES.
They are often used with ESTAR to describe a CONDITION or STATE that results from an action. List other Spanish adjectives, they must agree in GENDER and NUMBER with the nouns they modify.

7 She saw the broken desk in the classroom.
Ella vio un escritorio roto en la sala de clase. We have the table set and dinner made. Nosotros tenemos la mesa puesta y la cena hecha. I like to use recycled paper. Me gusta usar papel reciclado. The problem is resolved. El problema está resuelto.
