Warm up Copy these sentences (yes in English), and underline the direct object in each. The dog ate the food The boy threw the ball to his friend

What is a direct object? It is a noun, and answers the question, “Who or what receives the action of the verb?”

DOP me (me) nos (us) te (you fam) os (y’all) lo (him/it/you) la (her/it/you) nos (us) os (y’all) los (them: masc/mixed or you plural) las (them: fem or you plural: fem)

Which DOP would you use to rename the following? Los muchachos Amelia y Nacho A mi A ti a Linda y Laura La muchacha y el perro A vosotros El televisor Los ojos Miguel

The DOP will always be placed: In front of the conjugated verb. (THIS WILL ALWAYS BE RIGHT!) OR Attached to the end of an infinitive verb phrase Attached to the end of a present participle (a verb that ends in -ing)

Which one is the DO? Now rewrite…. Yo empaco mi maleta. El botones lleva el equipaje al cuarto. El agente de aduanas inspecciona (a mí). Miramos una película en el avión. No tengo mi pasaporte.

Deber + Infinitive – to should Uds. deben comprar un pasaje de ida vuelta.

DOPs w/ Present Progressive Tense Yo estoy leyendo un libro en la biblioteca. Mi madre está preparando la cena. Luis está confirmando la reservación. Mi madre está empacando la maleta. El agente está inspeccionando el equipaje.

Remember!! Any time there is a conjugated verb and an infinitive, you may rewrite the sentence with the DOP 2 ways. If there is only a conjugated verb, the DOP must go in front of the conjugated verb.
