Negative words Negative words can go before or after the verb. If they go after the verb, no is used before the verb. Use ninguno(a) to say none, not (a single) one. It is generally used only in the singular and matches the noun it describes in gender. It can stand alone or go in front of a noun. Ninguno changes to ningún before a masculine singular noun.

Negative words Ninguno de ellos me saludó. No tenemos ningún examen mañana. Jaime no quiere practicar atletismo jamás. Ella nunca llega a tiempo a ninguna parte.

Time constructions The time construction hacer + time + que + verb is used to describe an event that began in the past and is still going on. Hace un año que participo en el club de debate. I have been participating in the debate club for a year. For an event that has not happened for a period of time up to the present, put no in front of the verb. Hace un año que no participo en el coro. I haven’t participated in choir for a year.

Time constructions Hacer + time can also be used to describe how long ago an event or situation took place. Hace dos años, me hice amigo de Juan. Two years ago, I became friends with Juan. Vi a Ricardo hace dos días. I saw Ricardo two days ago.
