Transcripción de la presentación:

SER VS ESTAR AND PRESENT PROGRESSIVE WHEN DO WE USE THESE 2 VERBS? HOW DO WE FORM PRESENT PROGRESSIVE?

SER=______ CONJUGATE THIS VERB YOU RASCAL! YO ______ TÚ ______ ÉL/ELLA/UD ______ NOSOTROS________ VOSOTROS ________ ELLOS/ELLAS/UDS _____

ESTAR=______ SUFFERIN’ SUCATASH!!!!! DO THE SAME THING. CONJUGATE “ESTAR”…DON’T FORGET THE ACCENTS FOLKS!!! YO ___ TÚ ______ ÉL/ELLA/UD. _____ NOSOTROS ______ VOSOTROS ________ ELLOS/ELLAS/UDS. _________

WHEN DO WE USE “SER”? Pepé es francés. IDENTIFICATION(MARCOS ES MI HERMANO.) PROFESSION(MI MADRE ES MÉDICA.) NATIONALITY (NOSOTROS SOMOS MEXICANOS.) MATERIAL (LA MESA ES DE PLÁSTICO.) ORIGEN (LA FALDA ES DE ESPAÑA.) TIME (SON LAS OCHO.) DATE (HOY ES EL 25 DE MAYO.) POSSESION (EL COCHE ES DE MI AMIGO.) Pepé es francés.

We use HELP when using ESTAR! Health (Ella está enferma.) Emotion (Rodrigo está bien.) Location (La cafetería está en el primer piso.) Present Progressive (Nosotros estamos practicando los usos de los verbos de SER y ESTAR.) Speedy está en México.

Present Progressive….what in the world is it? It’s an “alternative” way for saying that someone is doing “something”. For example….I am speaking (right now). You learned that you can say….. Yo hablo. BUT……here is the other way you can do this!!!! It’s as easy as baking a pie!!!!

For “AR Verbs” Take a verb such as “hablar” and just drop the “ar” endings and add “ando”. HABLANDO Now conjugate ESTAR for who is talking and put it in front of HABLANDO. I am speaking. If you just said hablando, you would just be saying “speaking”. So you have to say…..estoy hablando. Foghorn está jugando al béisbol.

OK…..let’s practice this idea. Ready? Remember estar+ “ando”. Translate. 1. I am eating lunch. (almorzar) 2. Bugs is fishing.(pescar) 3. Elmer and Bugs are walking. (caminar) 4. Daffy is playing the guitar. (tocar) 5. We are watching the movie. (mirar)

Now let’s try PRESENT PROGRESSIVE with “ER/IR” endings… Now let’s try PRESENT PROGRESSIVE with “ER/IR” endings…..it’s the same thing…just a different ending!! Take any verb like “comer” or “abrir”. Drop the endings….and slam bam thank you Sam!!! You’ve got “comiendo” and “abriendo” Again remember to use estar because they (present participles) can’t stand by themselves. Let’s try it on your paper now! Roadrunner está corriendo.

See ya Mr. Photograher!!! Modelo. I am eating. Estoy comiendo. 6. The Road Runner is running. (correr) 7. Slyvester is opening the door.(abrir la puerta.) 8. Grannie is writing a letter. (escribir una carta) 9. We are sleeping in class!(dormir…and you better not be!!)

Now choose and conjugate “SER and ESTAR” from your notes and answer the questions, Earthlings! 10. Marta _____ de Wisconsin. 11. Luis _____ hablando por teléfono. 12. Yo _____ más o menos. 13. Hoy ____ el 5 de mayo. 14. ______ las 2:15. 15. Miguel _____en la oficina.

Would you use Ser or Estar? 16. Possession 17. Emotion 18. Date 19. Location 20. Nationality

Answer the Questions! 21. What does HELP stand for and what verb do you use? 22. Write a sentence using “Profession”. 23. Write a sentence using “identification”. 24. What character do you think will be on the next slide?

¡¡¡YA ES TODO!!!
