Vamos a aprender a conjugar el verbo “GUSTAR”. ¿Cómo es similar a las conjugaciones regulares? ¿Cómo es diferente a las conjugaciones regulares? ¿Cómo se usa el verbo GUSTAR? BOTH are conjugated for the subject doing the action. GUSTAR is conjugated only for the él / ellos forms b/c… and regular verbs are conjugated in 6 forms b/c... This verb requires an IOP when conjugated because there is a person receiving the action.

El verbo gustar The verb gustar means: “to be pleasing to”

Conjugating Gustar The subject of a sentence with “gustar” is the item that Ex: Me gusta el chocolate. = Chocolate is the subject because is doing the pleasing. Chocolate is pleasing to me. it is doing the pleasing.

When Conjugating Gustar you identify who is being pleased with an IOP  in front of gustar. Do not use a subject pronoun (yo, tú, nosotros…) since the person is NOT = to me = to you = to him/her/you polite = to us = to them/you guys INDIRECT object pronoun the person is NOT the subject. Examples of gustar (A mí) me gusta el café. I like coffee.  You like tacos.  They like to play sports.  If you are saying “I like”, why doesn’t gustar end in an “O”? You are really saying…Coffee is pleasing to me so you conjugate for the subject  coffee. (A ti) te gustan los tacos. If you are saying “You like”, why doesn’t gustar end in an “AS”? You are really saying…Tacos are pleasing to you, so you conjugate for the subject  tacos. (A ellos) les gusta jugar deportes. If you are saying “They like”, why doesn’t gustar end in an “AN”? You are really saying…PLAYING sports is pleasing to them, so you conjugate for the subject  PLAYING.
