Affirmative tú commands are when you tell/ask someone to do something. In English & in Spanish we say: Wash the dishes --- Lava los platos Sweep the floor --- Barre el piso Open the door --- Abre la puerta

Lets conjugate: Lavar: to wash yo lavo tú lavas --- To make a statement when talking to someone el/ella lava --- To give someone a command Tú lavas los platos. You wash the dishes. ¡Tú, lava los platos! You, go wash the dishes!

Most of the “affirmative tú commands” are the same as the conjugation for él or ella Infinitive verb Present Tense 3rd person singular (el/ella) Affirmative tú command lavar barrer abrir lava Lava los platos. barre Barre el suelo. abre Abre la puerta.

However….. There are a few tú commands that you have to memorize because they are irregular verbs. These are on page 282… *decir—di *salir-sal *hacer – haz *ser-sé *ir- ve *tener-ten *poner-pon *venir-ven

Práctica: Rewrite the following quehaceres to give a command: lavar los platos 7. cortar el césped planchar la ropa 8. ser buena venir a la casa 9. sacar la basura barrer el suelo 10. traer el pastel salir temprano 11. ir a la tienda hacer la cama 12. poner la mesa

Important points to remember to get it right: 1. Make sure to add the word “a” when using these verbs: sal, ven, ve * “sal a” means go out to. Go out to cut the grass. -- Sal a cortar el césped. * “ven a” --- means come to. Come to the party. ---Ven a la fiesta. * “ve a” ---means go to. Go to sweep the floor. – Ve a barrer el suelo. When giving 2 commands, both verbs must be conjugated: Go and sweep the floor. Ve y barre el suelo. infinitive Both conjugated

Important points to remember to get it right: 3. Ten comes from the infinitive “tener” which means to have; to possess something. Have your homework. Ten tu tarea. Have the presents. Ten los regalos. Have the invitations. Ten las invitaciones.

Using the “it” expressions when giving a command: In English: Have the homework tomorrow. Have it tomorrow. In Spanish: Ten la tarea mañana. Tenla mañana. “it” is the direct object pronoun. Remember these? lo, la, los las Lets review them…

Direct Object Pronouns página 204. yo– me (me) nosotros/as- nos (us) tú – te (you familiar) vosotros/as- os (you all él - lo (you formal, him, it) ellos– los (you, them) ella- la (you formal, her, it) ellas– las (you, them)

Mi prima y yo los tenemos. 3. Tú necesitas hacer la tarea. Tú la necesitas hacer. 4. Necesitas la ropa nueva. La necesitas nueva. 5. Necesitas comprar los zapatos hoy. Los necesitas comprar hoy.
