2 In Spanish… When we want to tell a friend to do something we use informal (tú) commands… ¡Come! – EAT! ¡Camina!- WALK! ¡Duerme!- SLEEP! What looks familiar about these endings?

3 Commands are used for both dos and donts Lets begin with the dos (affirmate tú commands) To state the dos of most verbs, drop the –s ending of the verb. STATEMENT COMMAND (tú) caminas¡Camina!Walk! (tú) comes¡Come!Eat! (tú) duermes¡Duerme! Sleep! *You are basically conjugating the verb in he Form. Affirmative Informal Commands

5 Lets work on affirmative commands… Open the window!… –Verb Abrir ¡Abre la ventana! Affirmative tú commands –Use the 3 rd person singular of the verb in the present tense –Be sure to follow all stem-changing rules. Speak now!... -Verb hablar ¡Habla ahora!

6 Negative Informal Commands To state the donts you have to… –Conjugate the verb in the YO form, drop the o and then switch the endings. –Ar –es Er –as Ir -as STATEMENTCOMMAND (tú) fumas¡No fumes! Dont smoke! (tú) corres¡No corras! Dont run! (tú) duermes¡No duermas! Dont sleep!

7 Dont buy pizza!... -Verb comprar ¡No compres la pizza! Lets work on informal negative commands Dont open the door!... -Verb abrir ¡No abras la puerta! Dont drink soda!... -Verb beber ¡No bebas los refrescos!
