Mount Hermon from south Names of Mount Hermon In the Bible it is known as Ba’al Hermon, Sirion, and Sion. Deuteronomy 3:9 says, “Hermon is called Sirion by the Sidonians; the Amorites call it Senir” (NIV). Scholars have debated as to whether all three toponyms refer to the entire anti-Lebanon range or only to its southernmost mountain called Hermon. Josephus refers to it as Mt. Lebanon (Ant 5.3.1). In Aramaic, in post-biblical times, it was called Toor Thalga. The Arabs used to call it Jabel A-talg which means “the snow mountain.” Many years ago, snow was brought from Mt.
