Names of Mount Hermon In the Bible it is known as Ba’al Hermon, Sirion, and Sion. Deuteronomy 3:9 says, “Hermon is called Sirion by the Sidonians; the Amorites call it Senir” (NIV). Scholars have debated as to whether all three toponyms refer to the entire anti-Lebanon range or only to its southernmost mountain called Hermon. Josephus refers to it as Mt. Lebanon (Ant 5.3.1). In Aramaic, in post-biblical times, it was called Toor Thalga. The Arabs used to call it Jabel A-talg which means “the snow mountain.” Many years ago, snow was brought from Mt. Hermon for use in the ice boxes in Jerusalem. Today, in Arabic, it is called Jabel A-Sheikh which means “old man mountain.” Monte Hermón desde el sur

15 Lc. 9:31 – Moisés y Elías hablan de la partida (“éxodo”) de Cristo.
Se lo conecta otra vez con la vida de Israel como nación. ¿Será para Cristo, liberación de la esclavitud de este mundo, o una libertad de servicio? ¿Quizás su partida también nos da “el éxodo” de nuestra esclavitud del pecado? v. 32 – Pedro, Juan y Jacobo estaban rendidos de sueño, pero permanecieron despiertos, y vieron la gloria de Jesús. v. 33 – ¡Pedro no sabía lo que decía!

16 Mr. 9:9-10 – Al descender del monte, los discípulos hablaban de lo que significaba “resucitar de los muertos”. v – Juan el Bautista es Elías (Mal. 3:5), que tenía que venir primero, y después el Hijo del Hombre con su sufrimiento.

17 Mt. 17:5 – Hijo amado, en quien tengo complacencia.
Lc. 9: 35 – En la versión NVI no dice amado, pero sí dice elegido (En RV60 sí dice amado). Los tres evangelios dicen: “A Él oíd”, confirmando que el mensaje y ministerio de Cristo son más importantes y definitivos que los de Moisés y Elías que representaban a la ley y a los profetas. Óiganle en vez de corregirlo (Mr. 8:32).

18 Comparación interesante.
Ap. 11:3-12 – Los dos testigos son: Los dos olivos – En el A. T., el olivo, representaba a veces a Israel (Os. 14:6, Jer. 11:16) y a estos dos testigos (Zac. 4:11-14). Los dos candeleros – En Ap. 1:20 los candeleros representaban a la iglesia.

19 Ap. 11:6 – Poder para: Cerrar los cielos para que no llueva (Elías, cp. I Reyes 17:1). Convertir las aguas en sangre. Desatar sobre la tierra toda clase de plagas (Moisés, cp. Éx. 7:20, cap. 7-12). Ap. 11:8-10 – Los dos testigos fueron muertos en Jerusalén, como Cristo. Ap. 11:11 – Fueron resucitados y llevados al cielo (Elías, 2 Reyes 2, Cristo, Mt. 28).

21 Había una gran multitud que rodeaba y discutía con los discípulos.
Al ver a Jesús, la multitud se asombró y corrió a su encuentro (Evangelio de Marcos).

22 Diferentes descripciones del muchacho, del espíritu y de lo que éste hace:
Hijo único. Lunático Padece mucho. Se va secando. De repente da voces. Un espíritu mudo y sordo lo toma. El espíritu lo sacude con violencia. Le hace echar espuma por la boca. Lo hace caer en el fuego y en el agua. Le hace crujir los dientes.

23 Mr. 9:20 – Cuando el espíritu vio a Jesús…
Mr. 9:22 – “… pero si puedes hacer algo…” Mr. 9:23 – “¿Cómo que si puedo?” (NVI) Todo… La fe no está en la probabilidad del milagro, sino la posibilidad del milagro. Mr. 9:24 – “Creo — ayuda mi incredulidad”. Mr. 9:25 – “Y no entres más en él” (Mt. 12:43ss) Mr. 9:29 – “Este género con nada puede salir no sale sino con oración y ayuno” (¿Cuándo iba a ayunar?) Mt. 17:19-20 – Por su poca fe los discípulos no pudieron.

24 III. La moneda de la boca del pescado
Lectura: Mt. 17:24-27 (Ex. 30:13-14)

25 Posible prueba de la edad de los discípulos.
No era obligatorio, pero Cristo pagó el impuesto para evitar “escandalizar” a los demás. Otro ejemplo de cómo la provisión de Cristo no es limitada a las leyes de la naturaleza. ¿Qué implica para nuestros presupuestos en la iglesia? ¿O para levantar fondos?

26 IV. La humildad de los pequeños

32 No exigir derechos. No esperar honores. Dedicarse y conformarse con su propio trabajo.

33 ¿Quién está a favor, y quién en contra?
Lectura: Mr. 9:38-41 Lc. 9:49-50

34 Es interesante la conexión de lo que antes viene “respondiendo Juan”.
Una posición que afirme que es el más grande, también presupone que no hay otro que pueda hacer las cosas tan bien como él. Compara con Mr. 9:39 y Mt. 7:21-23.
