¡Tengo hambre! Quiero un bocadillo. Quiero una ensalada. Model the phrases for ‘I am hungry’ and get the pupils to do an appropriate action as they say the words. Then model ‘I want a sandwich’ and ‘I want a salad’, again with a gesture for ‘I want’ that will help them remember the meaning. Quiero una ensalada.
¿Qué quieres? Quiero… Practise asking and answering with several items of vocabulary. Then give our the sets of cards, one set for each pair. They divide them up and lay them out in front of them. They practise in pairs asking ‘What do you want?’ and asking for each other’s items and exchanging them.
Diálogo en una cafetería. ¿Qué quieres? Quiero , por favor Aquí tienes. Gracias. Model the dialogue in a café, adding the additional words ‘please’, ‘here you are’, ‘thank you’ and ‘you’re welcome’. Try to elicit the English meaning from the pupils through the actions and intonation as you model the dialogue. Practise the pronunciation and intonation with them. Create roles by having one pupil take all the cards and lay them out on the their side of the table. This person is the waiter. Get them to practise the dialogue a few times. De nada.
