El Pluscuamperfecto del Subjuntivo (Past perfect Subjunctive) The past perfect subjunctive is used after a subjunctive trigger and means ‘had done’. It is the subjunctive of ‘había ado/ido’ ‘habías viajado’ ‘hubieras viajado’ (you had traveled) (same, but after a trigger)
Las formas hubieras hubierais +ado/ido hubiera hubieran To form the tense, you simply put ‘haber’ in the imperfect subjunctive: then add ado/ido hubiera hubiéramos hubieras hubierais +ado/ido hubiera hubieran
El Uso The pluperfect subjunctive is used after any type of subjunctive trigger: ‘Era dudoso que Pepita me hubiera dicho la verdad.’
‘Nos sorprendía que hubieras fracasado el curso.’
Otro uso: Las situaciones hipotéticas Remember how the imperfect subjunctive is used with ‘si…’? The pluperfect subjunctive is used the same way: Imperfect Subjunctive “Si yo tuviera más dinero, viajaría más.” (followed up with conditional) If I had more money, I would travel more. (I’m talking about what I would do in the future if things were different.)
Ahora, con el pluscuamperfecto del subjuntivo… “Si yo hubiera tenido más dinero, habría viajado más. (followed up with conditional perfect) If I had had more money, I would have traveled more. (I’m talking about what I would have done in the past if things had been different.)
