Abstract: The following presentation shows what conditionals are, and which one it is used to talk about real situations. Simple present, future simple, if, main clause, hyphotesis.. TOPIC: First conditional
3
It is very common to talk about cause – effect actions. The first conditional is a structure used for talking about possibilities in the present or in the future. First conditional is very useful when we want to talk about these type of situations which can be real. Introduction:
4
Each type consists in two parts: the “if” clause (hypothesis), which begins with the word if and the main clause which shows the result of the hypothesis. Talks about things that are possible, but not certain Says what we think the result will be in this situation.
5
STRUCTURE: If clause If + Subject+ Simple present verb Main clause Subject + will + verb + Future simple verb EXAMPLE: If he wakes up late, he will miss the bus.
6
Complete the conditional sentences (Type I) by putting the verbs into the correct form.
7
[IF] + [SUBJECT] + [DON'T / DOESN'T] [VERB IN BASE FORM], + [SUBJECT] + [WILL] + [VERB IN BASE FORM] f I don´t have too much work, I’ll watch TV If she doesn’t have too much work, she will watch TV NEGATIVE FORM OF THE FIRST CONDITIONAL
8
[IF] + [SUBJECT] + [DON'T / DOESN'T] [VERB IN BASE FORM], + [SUBJECT] + [WILL NOT] * + [VERB IN BASE FORM] If I don´t have to much work, I won’t be stressed If she doesn’t come, I won’t go anywhere
9
You can use questions in the result-clause. Use the regular question word order. The question is never in the if-clause. To form the interrogative we do it in the same way as an interrogative sentence would be formed by placing the pronoun after the auxiliary: INTERROGATIVE FORM
10
If I study hard, will I go to the party? If you can’t drive to work, how will you get there? If you are sick tomorrow, will someone else be able to do your work? If you have a minute, can you please check this for me? EXAMPLES:
