hace + time + que + verb in the present tense #1: Hace and the present hace + time + que + verb in the present tense is used to describe an event that began in the past and is still going on. Ejemplos: Hace un año que participo en el club de debate. (I have been participating in the debate club for a year) Hace 3 horas que hablo por teléfono. (I have been talking on the phone for 3 hours)

Think about an activity that you do that began in the past and that you still do. ¿Cuántos años/ meses/ semanas/ días? Escribir la frase: Hace ___(time)___ que practico____(sport/activity)_____.

How long hace ….que + present tense ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que hablas el inglés? Hace…. que hablo inglés.  ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que tu mejor amigo es tu mejor amigo? Hace…. que es mi mejor amigo.  ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que comes tu comida favorita?  ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que estudias a CB South? ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que estás en la clase de Español 3?

#2 NO For an event that has not happened for a period of time up to the present, put a NO in front of the verb. Ejemplo Hace un año que no participo en el coro. I haven’t participated in choir for a year.

Práctica (Hace + que + presente) I have been reading books for ten years. I haven’t done my homework for two weeks. We haven’t jumped rope in five years. I have been participating in the school band for five days. Hace 10 años que leo libros. Hace 2 semanas que no hago la tarea. Hace 5 años que no saltamos la cuerda. Hace 5 días que participo en la banda escolar.

#3 Hace and the past Hacer + time and a verb in the past can also be used to describe how long ago an event or situation took place. Ejemplos: 1. Hace dos años, me hice amigo de Juan Two years ago, I became friends with Juan 2. Vi a Ricardo hace dos días I saw Ricardo two days ago
