Quasimodo: Get ready for your quiz!

Después de la prueba: Guess the meaning of the following sentences using what you know already and the verbs section of your vocab Yo hablo mucho. Ellos estudian español.

Los verbos en español All verbs in Spanish in their infinitive forms end with AR, ER, or IR. This format is what the verb looks like when it isn’t conjugated to fit a specific subject. So it is the “ to …” form of the verb rather than the “he ____” Examples: Ser = “to be” Comer = “to eat” Charlar = “to chat” Ir = “to go”

Mirar Doctor Correr actor alto vivir Estar Solo soldado valor volar Práctica: Circle the words below that are verbs in their infinitive forms: Mirar Doctor Correr actor alto vivir Estar Solo soldado valor volar viajar hablar baja pagar

Los infinitivos An infinitive is made up of 2 parts: The root/stem gives you the meaning of the verb. The ending (-ar, -er, -ir) tells you how to conjugate the verb. Examples: Viajar: Viaj- = root/stem (tells you you’re working with “to travel”) -ar = ending Correr: Corr- = root/stem (tells you you’re working with “to run”) -er = ending

Práctica: Mirar Correr Estar Vivir Hablar Viajar Volar Pagar Mir/ar

Vocabulario: Infinitive  Non conjugated form of the verb. “to _______” Root/stem  Part of the verb that tells you the meaning of the verb. This does not change in regular verbs even when they are conjugated. Ending  -ar, -ir, -er . Tells you how to conjugate the verb. Conjugate  Changing the infinitive to match the subject. In regular verbs you do this by changing only the ending.

Verb conjugations: On the next slide I have some example sentences with the verb “estudiar” Try to figure out what each sentence means Watch what happens to the end of the verb to get it to match the subject properly.

Ejemplo: Estudiar Yo estudio mucho. Tú no estudias. Usted estudia por la mañana. Ella estudia para la prueba. Nosotros estudiamos español. Vosotros estudiás por la tarde. Ustedes estudian el arte. Ellos no estudian mucho.

Los verbos regulares -AR verbs: -o -amos -as -áis -a -an

Yo hablo Yo habl hablar habl Conjugating verbs: Step #1: Step #2: Remove the ending so you are just left with the root. Step #2: What is your subject? Step #3: Add the ending that matches with that subject.

Viajar chart: Viajo Viajamos Viajas Viajáis Viaja Viajan Viaj Yo Nosotros Tú Vosotros Usted Ustedes Él / Ella Ellos/Ellas

Tarea: You are getting a sheet of blank verb conjugation boxes. Pick 6-8 verbs from your vocabulary to fill in conjugation charts. For right now please include the subject pronouns for each box and conjugation.
