Did you get everything right? By now you should know how to conjugate Spanish verbs that end in –AR. Examples of –AR infinitives: Nadar Escuchar Patinar Jugar Dibujar Pasear Alquilar There are three types of verbs in Spanish… verbs that end in –AR, verbs that end in –ER, and verbs that end in –IR.

Compare the two –ER verb conjugations with the conjugations of hablar. Correr = to run Yo corro Tú corres Usted corre Él corre Ella corre Nosotros corremos Ustedes corren Ellos corren Ellas corren Hablar = to talk Yo hablo Tú hablas Usted habla Él habla Ella habla Nosotros hablamos Ustedes hablan Ellos hablan Ellas hablan Leer = to read Yo leo Tú lees Usted lee Él lee Ella lee Nosotros leemos Ustedes leen Ellos leen Ellas leen

What are the similarities between the –AR and –ER verb conjugation endings? What are the differences? -AR endings Yo -o Tú -as Usted -a Él -a Ella -a Nosotros -amos Ustedes -an Ellos -an Ellas -an -ER endings Yo -o Tú -es Usted -e Él -e Ella -e Nosotros -emos Ustedes -en Ellos -en Ellas -en The yo form ending is the same. Aside from the yo form, all of the -AR verb endings start with a. Apart from the yo form, all of the –ER verb endings start with e. Besides this a and e difference, the verb endings are the same.

Same rules apply… Before adding verb conjugation endings you must take off the last two letters of the infinitive. Take off the –AR, -ER, or –IR before adding the verb endings that match the subject you are talking about.

Practicamos… Yo como = I eat… Tú comes = You eat… Usted come = You eat… Él come = He eats… Ella come = She eats… Nosotros comemos = We eat… Ustedes comen = You guys eat… Ellos comen = They eat… Ellas comen = They eat… Conjugate comer (to eat)

Practicamos… Escribe en español. *Conjugate your verbs! We do homework. They do homework. She runs. I eat ice cream. Nosotros hacemos la tarea. Ellos hacen la tarea. Ella corre. Yo como el helado.

Practicamos… Escribe en español. *Careful – there are both –ER and –AR verbs! He plays the piano. She reads. We rest. They do homework. Él toca el piano. Ella lee. Nosotros descansamos. Ellos hacen la tarea.
