Descriptions in the past or setting up a scene DESCRIPTION: 1)to set the scene of a story or giving background information → Había/Érase una vez…. → Eran dos personas. Ellos llevaba…. → Once upon a time there was… → There were two people. They were wearing... 2) descriptions in the past → Mi madre era alta y delgada. → My mother was tall and slender.

Descriptions for setting up the scene When you are telling a story, you must use the imperfect until something happens and changes the direction of the story. “ It was a beautiful day. There were trees blowing in the wind. My friends were all talking about some homework that we had to do. I kept walking. But then, I suddenly remembered that I had forgotten my homework last night. I had to turn around go home!”

More: Once upon a time, there was a magician and a princess. They were in love and lived in Granada. They wanted to get married, but the king wouldn’t let them. However, the magician put a spell on the garden and tricked the king. The princess and magician got married and lived happily ever after.
