17 Hubo and Había Use hubo for sudden changes. Estaba tranquilo en la sierra cuando de repente hubo una tormenta con relámpagos y trueno. It was calm in the mountains when suddenly there was (big change) a thunderstorm with lightning.

18 Había cuatro jóvenes en la sierra conmigo. There were four young people in the mountains with me. Nothing sudden. There were for an undisclosed amount of time, four people with me and they might still be with me. (No change, no suddenness)
