Cualquiera que repudiare a su mujer, déle carta de divorcio—Un obstáculo legal aplicado a la separación tiránica y precipitada. La única base legítima para el divorcio permitida por el artículo que se acaba de citar, era “alguna forma de impureza”; en otras palabras, infidelidad conyugal. Pero mientras que una escuela de intérpretes (la de Shammai) explicaba esto correctamente, como prohibiendo el divorcio en cualquier caso excepto por adulterio, la otra escuela (la de Hillel) extendía la expresiór hasta incluír cualquier cosa en la esposa que resultase ofensiva o desagradable para el marido, un punto de vista de la ley muy útil para servir al capricho y a las inclinaciones depravadas. Hasta el día de hoy los judíos permiten divorcios por los pretextos más frívolos. Fué para hacer frente a esto que el Señor pronunció lo que sigue: 32.
