Operations Charts Keep these operations charts posted by the wall you usually work out math word problems. Print them in color and paste them on the same color construction paper. (laminate) As you problem solve, ask students what they are doing in the problem. Ex. Jack has 5 apples. He gives 3 apples to Jay. How many does he have left? Are we combining 2 or more groups? Are we taking something away? Are we looking for a missing part? Refer to the charts every time you work out a problem. Soon you will see the students looking at the wall to check themselves. As high stakes assessments come around. Flip the charts around. The color will still be there. As they work out problems, you will still see them looking at the colored construction paper for guidance.
