Transcripción de la presentación:

Hay que & Tener que

To talk about things someone must do, use these two formulas: Hay + que + infinitive Tener + que + infinitive

Repaso: Infinitive An infinitive is a verb BEFORE it is conjugated. Ejemplos: hablar, escuchar, estudiar, ser, tener.

Hay + que + infinitive We use “hay + que + infinitive” when there is no SPECIFIC subject. It is just a general statement about what one must do. Ejemplos: hay que estudiar español todos los días. hay que sacar buenas notas. hay que ser simpático.

Tener + que + infinitive Use “tener + que + infinitive” if there is a specific subject. Recuerdas: you MUST conjugate tener to match the subject! Ejemplos: tú tienes que escuchar al meastro. yo tengo que preparar la tarea. ellas tienen que leer el libro. nosotros tenemos que sacar una buena nota.

Ejemplos: use “tener” to say what these people have to do 1. Ivan / llegar temprano. 2. Nosotros / llevar nuestras mochilas. 3. Yo / usar la calculadora. 4. Tú / buscar para el libro. 5. Las chicas / ayudar los niños.
