Transcripción de la presentación:

Las clases de Sra. Schwarz Realidades 1 The Verb IR

Sra. Schwarz VERBOS REGULARES Most verbs you have learned so far follow a pattern. For most infinitives you have seen, you conjugate by adding a certain set of endings depending on the type of verb (AR, ER, IR).

Sra. Schwarz VERBOS REGULARES The verb endings show who is doing the action:  (yo) hablo  (tú) escribes  (nosotros) caminamos  (ellos) hacen ejercicio

Sra. Schwarz VERBOS REGULARES Verbs that follow certain patterns are called regular verbs. Verbs that do not follow certain patterns are called irregular verbs and their conjugations must be memorized.

Sra. Schwarz VERBOS IRREGULARES Some irregular verbs you have seen so far are ser and estar. The verb ir is also irregular. Ir means to go in English.

Sra. Schwarz VERBOS IRREGULARES You must memorize the forms of ir because it is an irregular verb and follows no particular pattern. Now, let’s conjugate ir!

Sra. Schwarz IR (to go) yo voy tú vas Ud. va él va ella va (“it”) va nosotros vamos nosotras vamos vosotros vais vosotras vais Uds. van ellos van ellas van (plural “it”) van

Sra. Schwarz EL VERBO IR You will often hear people say ¡Vamos!...This means Let’s go! To ask where someone is going, use the interrogative word ¿Adónde? with a form of ir. ¿Adónde vas? (Where are you going?) ¿Adónde va él? (Where is he going?) ¿Adónde van Uds.? (Where are you all going?)

Sra. Schwarz EL VERBO IR Ir is often followed by the word a. Remember that a means to in English. The preposition a el (“to the”) always contracts to become al. The preposition a la (“to the”) does not contract. Por ejemplo: Voy al cine. (I go to the cinema.) Van a la escuela. (You all go to school.)

Sra. Schwarz IR + A + INFINITIVO We use this formula to tell what someone is going to do (in the near future): ir + a + infinitivo You will see this expression frequently in Spanish.

Sra. Schwarz IR + A + INFINITIVO Follow these steps to say what someone is going to do: 1.Conjugate the verb ir appropriately: voy, vas, va, vamos, vais, van. 2.Add a, which means to. 3.Choose an infinitive to express the action that someone is going to do.

Sra. Schwarz IR + A + INFINITIVO Yo voy a ir a la escuela. I’m going to go to school. ¿Tú vas a ir a la escuela también? Are you going to go to school too? Él va a nadar. He is going to swim. Ella va a ir de compras mañana. She is going to go shopping tomorrow.

Sra. Schwarz IR + A + INFINITIVO Nosotros vamos a jugar fútbol. We are going to play soccer. Ellas van a escribir en la clase. They are going to write in class. ¿Ustedes van a preparar para el examen? Are you all going to prepare for the test?
