The Verb IR + A + Infinitive/Place

The verb “ir” is IRREGULAR. It means “to go” in English. It is often followed by the word a: Voy al cine.

You must put to memory the forms of “ir” because it is an irregular verb and it follows no pattern.

We use a form of the verb ir + a + infinitive to tell what someone is going to do- in the immediate future.

Yo voy a nadar. Y tú, ¿vas a jugar fútbol? I’m going to swim. And you, are you going to play soccer? Notice that only “ir” is conjugated. The second verb in a sentence is never conjugated. It remains in its infinitive form.

Los estudiantes van a la biblioteca. The students go (are going) to the library.

Don’t forget the way to say “to the” 4 ways: a + el (al)- (singular) a la - (singular) a los -(plural) a las -(plural)
