Subject Pronouns Singular 1 st person:yo (I) 2 nd person:tú (you informal) él (he) 3rd person: ella (she ) usted ( you formal) X (it) Plural 1 st person:nosotros/as(we) 2 nd personvosotros/as(you plural)* *used only in Spain ellos(they –all males or mixed group) 3rd person:ellas(they – all females) ustedes(you plural used in Central/South America and Spain)

What is the difference between tú and usted? Tú means you (informal)  It is used with a friend, family member, or someone younger.  It is second person singular. Usted means you (formal)  It is used with a person you don’t know, someone older, or someone to whom you want to show respect.  It is third person singular.  Usted can be abbreviated as Ud.

What is the difference between vosotros and ustedes? Vosotros and ustedes both mean you (plural-you all). That is you and another person. EX. Paul and you= you (all)  Vosotros is only used in Spain. Vosotros is second person plural. It is informal.  Ustedes is used in Mexico, Central America, South America, and Spain. It is third person plural. It can be formal and informal. It is formal in Spain.  Ustedes can be abbreviated as Uds.

Ellos and Ellas Ellos and Ellas both mean they. Ellos and ellas are third person plural. ***Do Not confuse them with vosotros or ustedes which mean you (you all).***

Remember When Replacing Nouns With Pronouns: Boy’s name = (he) él Girl’s name = (she) ella Name and I = (we) nosotros Name and you = (you all) ustedes or vosotros Name and name = (they) ellos or ellas
