What does the preterite look like? The preterite has special endings for -ar, -er, and -ir verbs – lucky for you, -er and -ir endings are the same.

To conjugate regular -er and -ir verbs in the preterite, simply drop the ending (-er or -ir) and add one of the following: í iste ió imos ieron
