Regular Formation  Drop the regular ending and add the following endings based on the ending of the original verb:  -ar verbs verbs  -ar verbs -er/ir verbs  é amosíimos  asteasteisisteisteis  ó aronió ieron  For example, take the verb comer in a sentence:  She ate a lot of hamburgers at the party. You would take off the –er ending off of comer and add the –er ending for ella, él, and usted, to the stem of comer, since the subject of the sentence is “she.” In a sentence it would look like: Ella comió mucho hamburguesas al fiesta. Example: I bought some new shoes. The verb is comprar: Yo compré unos nuevos zapatos. Now it Gets Harder!

In the Preterite, there are also other exceptions.  For verbs that end in –car, -gar, or –zar, in the yo-form, they do a special little trick!  -car-qué  -gar- gué  -zar- cé Buscar busqué buscamos Lanzar buscaste buscasteislancé lanzamos busco buscaronlanzaste lanzasteis lanzó lanzaron Jugar jugué jugamos I played with Robert yesterday jugastejugasteis Yo jugué con Robert jugió jugaron manaña.
