Prepárennos allí la cena”. 16  Los discípulos se fueron, llegaron a la ciudad, encontraron lo que Jesús les había dicho y prepararon la cena de Pascua.

22 Mientras cenaban, Jesús tomó un pan, pronunció la bendición, lo partió y se lo dio a sus discípulos, diciendo: “Tomen: esto es mi cuerpo”. 23 Y tomando en sus manos una copa de vino, pronunció la acción de gracias, se la dio, todos bebieron 24 y les dijo: “Ésta es mi sangre, sangre de la alianza, que se derrama por todos.

14 Wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?” ’ 15 Then he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.” 16 The disciples then went off, entered the city, and found it just as he had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

22 While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is my body.” 23 Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.

Reflections on Corpus Christi 2015 Reflexiones en Corpus Cristi 2015 by Fr. Sam Rosales, S.J. June 7, 2015 This is the Feast of the Body and the Blood of Christ. In order to appreciate this Feast better, I will make a few observations on the readings of the Mass. Then I will say a few words on the notion of covenant, and make some applications.

Esta es la Fiesta del Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo Esta es la Fiesta del Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo. Para mejor agradecer esta Fiesta, quiero hacer unas observaciones acerca de las lecturas de la Misa. Luego voy a hablar de la idea de “alianza”, y haré unas aplicaciones.

In the first reading of today’s Mass, Exodus 24:3-8, Moses dashed blood on the people. They agreed to the original covenant. Covenant is a special kind of an agreement. Even if one side does not honor the covenant, the other side is still bound to keep it. God kept his side of the covenant when Jesus shed his blood for the people of the new covenant. He seals it by giving us his Blood to drink.

En la primera lectura de la Misa (Exodo 24:3-8), Moisés salpicó sangre sobre el pueblo. Esto indico que estuvieron de acuerdo con la alianza original. Una alianza es un tipo de acuerdo muy especial. Obliga aunque uno de los dos lados no cumpla. Dios cumple su lado de la alianza cuando Jesucristo derrama su sangre por el pueblo de la nueva alianza. Lo sella cada vez que nos da de su sangre para beber.

The Book of Hebrews (9:11-15) says Jesus is the mediator of a New Covenant. The Old Covenant used the blood of animals to sanctify, to purify from defilement. In the New Covenant it is the Blood of Jesus Himself that delivers us from our transgressions. That is why he said “This is my blood of the Covenant, which will shed for many.” At every Mass, the priest in the Name of the Lord, repeats these very words at the moment of consecration.

El libro de Hebreos (9: 11-15) dice que Jesús es el mediador de la Nueva Alianza. La Antigua Alianza utilizó la sangre de los animales para santificar, para purificar de los pecados. En la Nueva Alianza es la Sangre de Jesús mismo que nos libra de nuestros pecados. Por eso dijo: “Esta es mi sangre de la Alianza, que será derramada por muchos.” En cada Misa, el sacerdote en el Nombre del Señor, repite estas mismas palabras en el momento de la consagración.

When we receive the Body and Blood of Christ we renew our promise to live as members of Christ’s Body. We take responsibility for keeping our part of the Covenant. It has everything to do with our salvation. It is an awesome act. It is a special privilege. His presence in our bodies will change everything. We are more than just animals; we are children of God. And if we are his children, we are heirs to his Kingdom, partaking in his divine Life. And we shall live forever!

Al recibir el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo, renovamos nuestra promesa de vivir como miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo. Tomamos la responsabilidad de cumplir nuestra parte de la Alianza. Tiene todo que ver con nuestra salvación. Es algo maravilloso. Es un privilegio especial. Su presencia en nuestros cuerpos cambia todo. No somos solo animales, somos hijos de Dios. Y si somos hijos, somos herederos de su Reino, participando en su vida divina. Y ¡Viviremos para siempre!

There is added light to this mystery when we examine the words of Jesus as he introduced it in John chapter six. Jesus said: “I am the bread of life.” Whenever he says, “I am”, he is speaking about who he is as God. And when he speaks about “bread” he is teaching us about what happens when we receive him in Holy Communion. We are nourished spiritually, in a divine way.

Este misterio se ilumina al examinar las palabras de Jesucristo cuando Él lo introducía en Juan capitulo seis. Jesús dijo: “Yo soy el pan de la vida.” Cada vez que Jesús dice “Yo Soy” sabemos que esta hablando de quien es Él como Dios. Y cuando habla de “pan” esta enseñándonos de lo que sucede cuando lo recibimos en la Sagrada Comunión. Somos alimentados espiritualmente, de una manera divina.

Ultimately Jesus says it was not Moses that gave us the bread from heaven; it is his Father. He gives us the true bread from heaven (John 6:32-33). If we keep coming to him, we will not hunger. And if we keep believing in him, we will not thirst. Believing in him means we continually commit ourselves to him. In other words, it is not just a once and for all intellectual assent; it is also a giving of ourselves continually to him, in everything that we do. So that we can say, “In him we move, and live, and have our being.” (Acts. 17:28).

Ultimadamente, Jesús dice que no fue Moisés que nos dio el pan del cielo; fue su Padre celestial. Él nos da el verdadero pan del cielo (Juan 6:32-33). Si seguimos viniendo a Él, no tendremos hambre. Y si seguimos creyendo en Él, no tendremos sed. Creer en Él quiere decir que continuamente nos entregamos a Él. En otras palabras, no-solo es un asentimiento intelectual una vez y para siempre; también es ofrecerse a si mismo continuamente a Él, en todo lo que hacemos. Por eso se dice “En Él somos, vivimos, y tenemos nuestro existir” (Hechos 17:28).

There is an enormous amount of energy released by God in our very being, when we allow him to be in us. Didn’t He say; “My words are spirit and life?” (John 6:63). Yes, indeed. With this gift we want to live. And we want to live life to the max! We will notice an enthusiasm that was not there before. Whatever we are going through has much more meaning. Nothing is futile; nothing is wasted. There is a reason for everything. It is all part of being a living member of the Body of Christ!

Hay una cantidad enorme de energía que Dios suelta en nuestro mero ser, cuando lo permitimos estar en nosotros. ¿Ó qué no dijo el Señor: “Mis palabras son espirito y vida?” (Juan 6:63). ¡Claro que sí! Con este don queremos vivir. Y queremos vivir a lo máximo, con entusiasmo! Todo lo que estemos pasando tiene mucho mas sentido. Nada es inútil, nada es malgastado. Hay una razón para todo. ¡Y es parte de ser un miembro vivo del Cuerpo de Cristo!

Why shouldn’t I be singing? ¿Porque no deberia estar cantando?
