What is an Adjective? Words that describe nouns In English The adjective almost always comes before the noun In Spanish the adjective usually comes after the noun

In Spanish the adjective usually comes after the noun Adjectives match the gender and number of the nouns they describe Ex: el libro viejo (the old book) los libros viejos (the old books)

Singular Plural Masculine El chico alto the tall boy Los chicos altos the tall boys Feminine La chica alta the tall girl Las chicas altas the tall girls

Special Rules Adjectives that end in –e match both genders Many adjectives that end in a consonant match both genders Some adjectives that end in a consonant add –a to form the feminine singular. These exceptions have to be memorized El maestro inteligente La maestra inteligente El amigo joven La amiga joven El chico trabajador La chica trabajadora

Recuerda (Remember) To make an adjective plural Add -s if it ends in a vowel Add –es if it ends in a consonant
