Mark 6:30 - 34 30 The apostles gathered together with Jesus and reported all they had done and taught. 31 He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” People were coming and going in great numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat. 32 So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place.

July 22, 2012 In this, the 16th Sunday of Ordinary Time, the Gospel is about when the apostles return from their first experience of ministry and related to Jesus all that they had taught and done. They must have been exhausted. Already they were so busy they did not even have time to eat. Aware of this, Jesus said: “Come with me, to a solitary place, to rest a little.”

Este decimosexto Domingo Ordinario, el Evangelio se trata de cuando los apóstoles regresaron de su primera experiencia de misioneros, y le contaron a Jesús todo lo que habían hecho y enseñado. In Matthew 11:28 Jesus said: “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” It is so important for those in ministry to be in constant touch with the Master. Before, during, and after, the Lord accompanies us as our Shepherd.

He will show us how to minister with that happy balance, without over extending ourselves to the point of burnout. Jesus does not want us domineering the flock with a negative style of leadership. Rather, with compassion in our hearts, we are to serve the brethren and care for them.

“How beautiful are the feet of Him who brings good news” (Romans 10:15). I can just imagine the multitude of people from all walks of life looking for the Lord. Having recognized how good the Lord was, they were not about to let him out of their sight.

They could see from the hillside overlooking the small Sea of Galilee more or less where a boat was going. There were few places where boats could dock. And the boats were slow. That is why they could run on ahead of Jesus and the apostles by land, and be waiting for them, as they disembarked.

They were like sheep without a Shepherd, and Jesus had compassion on them. He began to teach them many things. What all did he say? We know that the kingdom sayings (over a hundred of them), were central to his teaching. We know that he would often speak about God our Father.

We know that he often spoke about how important it is to love one another. We know that he taught us to forgive one another not 70 times, but 70 times seven. And we know that he ended his life after saying: “Unless the grain of wheat, falling into the ground, dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it brings forth much fruit” (John 12:24).

Sabemos que hablo de la necesidad de perdonar no solo 70 veces sino que 70 veces 7 veces. Y sabemos que al terminar su vida dijo “Si el grano de trigo no cae y muere, queda infecundo, pero si muere, trae mucho fruto” (Juan 12:24).

Jesus died and rose from the dead Jesus died and rose from the dead. He is still with us in the Holy Spirit. But now with a mature faith He wants us to relate to him in a different way. We are to be with him in Spirit and in truth. We are to pray always. We are to keep coming to him all the time (John 6:35). We can be sure that he is there when we approach him through the sacraments.

It may be that sometimes, we sense him real close in consolation It may be that sometimes, we sense him real close in consolation. And we know that sometimes he seems to be far, far, away, or asleep. It may even be that we feel desolation, a want of faith, a lack of energy, and a lack of peace. Fall in love with that Emptiness. It is the Lord. In his passion he felt empty and alone. He invites you to be with him, and feel what he felt. But don’t worry, he will never give you more than you can handle.

Quizás que a veces lo sintamos muy cerca en la consolación Quizás que a veces lo sintamos muy cerca en la consolación. Y sabemos que a veces parece estar muy lejos, o dormido. Hasta pueda ser que sintamos desolación, falta de fe, falta de energía, o falta de paz. En esos momentos, en ese vació esta Jesús. Ámalo en ese vació. Es el Señor. En su Pasión y muerte se sintió solo, triste, y abandonado. Te invita a estar con Él, para que sientas lo que Él sintió. Pero no te preocupes, nunca te dará mas de lo que tu puedas cargar.

But Jesus said he would not leave us orphans But Jesus said he would not leave us orphans. He would leave us with the Holy Spirit. The beautiful Spirit of God will never abandon us. He is as gentle as a dove. And he will teach us all we need to know in the future. It may be that we are not always ready for what He wants to teach us. But he is very patient, and will wait for the proper time to speak to us in our hearts. That is where the Lord is.

Pero Él tiene mucha paciencia y se esperara para el momento apropiado para hablarnos en el corazón. Allí es en donde esta Dios.

He is God, Emmanuel. He is always with us He is God, Emmanuel. He is always with us. And He is a God of peace, and compassion, and forgiveness, and love. That is what I found when I followed Jesus. He gave me rest, and He forgave me my sins, and He showed me the way to the Father. That’s where it’s at, for me. Speak from the heart to Jesus. He is always there for you, and for me. Speak to Our Lady, in the rosary; she is always there, for me.
