MANY ADJECTIVES END IN –O AND -A When in the plural, you simply add an ‘s’ Adjectives ending in ‘e’ behave the same way (add an ‘s’ in the plural)

ADJECTIVES ENDING IN ‘Z’ Change to ‘ces’ in the plural Eg. Capaz - capaces

TO MAKE CERTAIN ADJECTIVES FEMININE Adjectives ending in -án -ón -ín Ór Add ‘a’ and ‘as’ to make the feminine Bonachón = bonachona Trabajador = trabajadora

COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES Do not have separate feminine forms Mayor – mayores Peor - peores

ADJECTIVES DENOTING REGION OR COUNTRY Add an –a in the feminine They lose the accent on the last syllable of the singular form ALWAYS START WITH A SMALL LETTER

AGREEMENT OF ADJECTIVES Adjectives have to agree with gender and number with the nouns they describe They are USUALLY placed after nouns Sometimes they are placed before nouns to indicate special emphasis See next slide
