Antes de empezar… A couple things to keep in mind before we start: Open mind (MENTE ABIERTA) Reserved judgement Intentions should not ridicule or be malicious

¿Qué es un estereotipo? Un estereotipo (Sustantivo) es un idea o un supuesto (assumption) que unas personas tienen sobre las características de una persona o grupo de personas. Estereotipar (Verbo) para clasificar una persona o grupo de personas sin saber (without knowing) los hechos.

Ejemplos Raza Edad Cultural Género Cowboy and Indian = estereotipos americanos Género La mamá cuida los niños y trabaja en casa El hombre es masculino y fuerte Los homosexuales – they cannot control their hormones for the same sex Hombres-femenina (habla como mujeres) Mujeres (lesbianas) –masculinas Raza Los mexicanos son inmigrantes y llevan sombreros Los negros les gusta el pollo frito Los asianos son muy buenos en las matemáticas. ¿Qué es ignorancia? Ignorancia (Sustantivo) es la falta de educación o conocimiento (lack of education and knowledge) Ejemplos: Irish people should have red hair, pale skin and freckles. Not true. Dark hair, dark eyes as well Irish immigration, U.S. melting pot = mixture Black people are all “African American” ¡FALSO! Why do we assume someone is from Africa based on their skin color? If it had not really happened, why would the stereotype start/being? Stereotypes used as comic relief…people laugh and are entertained No porque… No because not everyone is the same, you cannot assume for all cases of people Abused to change others’ opinions on a subject No one person acts or thinks the same Looks are deceiving () Ambos porque… It can be true, but may be exaggerated into something it is not
