“Regocijaos en el Señor siempre” Filipenses 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always” Philippians 4:4

Debe regocijarse siempre. Paul speaks of “joy” and “rejoicing” 16 times in this letter. It is one of the principal themes. The Christian should have joy. He should always rejoice.

Every effect has its cause. According to this letter to the Philippians, what produces the joy of which Paul speaks?

It does not depend on favorable circum-stances. Paul was in Rome, under sentence of death. How could he speak of rejoicing?

Fil. 4:11, “he aprendido a contentarme, cualquiera que sea mi situación”. Phil. 4:11, “I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.” This is the “secret” of how to be always happy: joy does not de-pend on favorable circumstances.

What then are the ingredients of joy according to the letter to the Philippians? What things produce joy? How is it possible to rejoice always?

Adorar y servir juntos. Ayudar los unos a los otros. Preocupados unos por otros. Esto produce gozo. Gratitud for fellowship with brethren, 1:3-5. Worship and serve together. Help each other. Concerned about each other. This produces joy.

Affectionate love produces joy, 1:7-9. I have you in my heart. I long for you. May your love abound more and more. The heart full of love is a joyful heart.

Escoger, aprobar lo mejor, 1:10, 11 Escoger, aprobar lo mejor, 1:10, 11. Distin-guir entre cosas que son diferentes. 1 Tes. 5:21, “Examinadlo todo; retened lo bueno”. Tomar buenas decisiones. Produce gozo. Approve the things that are excellent, 1:10,11. Distinguish between things that differ. 1 Thess. 5:21, “Examine all things; hold fast what is good.” Make good decisions. This produces joy.

Regocijarse. Let problems and difficulties help us, 1:12-14. Overcome, not be overcome. Rom. 8:37, “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Rejoice!

Rom 1:16 Defend the truth, 1:17, “I am set for the defense of the gospel.” 1:27, “standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.” Rom. 1:16.

Estar unidos. Be united, 2:2, “like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit.”

Be humble like Christ, 2:3-5, “but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”

2:12, “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” Those that are occupied in the work of the Lord are happy. This over-comes discouragement, promotes joy.

Above reproach. 2:14, “without complaining and disputing, 15 .. blameless and innocent, above reproach .. among whom you appear as lights in the world.”

Leave all for Christ, 3:7, “what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.”

3:13, “olvidando lo que queda atrás, extendiéndome a lo que está delante, 14 prosigo a la meta, al premio del supremo llamamiento de Dios en Cristo Jesús”. 3:13, “forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Without worry, 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplica-tion, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”7 Produces peace, joy.

“Meditate on this” 4:8, “whatever things are true … noble … just … pure … lovely … of good report …meditate on these things.” Sound mind. There is very little of this on TV

Imitate Paul, 4:9, “The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” Apostolic example important.

Siempre contentos, 4:11, “he aprendido a contentarme, cualquiera que sea mi situación. 12 Sé vivir humildemente, y sé tener abundancia”. ¡Hay que aprenderlo! Always content, 4:11, “I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to get along with humble means, and I know how to abound.” We must learn it!

Always prepared, 1:20, “Christ will be mag-nified in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain … 23 very far better.”

Beginning of this joy. Conversion of Lydia, Acts 16:13-15, and of the jailer, 16:32, “Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him … 33 he was baptized .. 34 he rejoiced.”

Conclusion: obey gospel with joy and then rejoice: with gratitud, fellowship, love, choose the good, overcome, defend, united, busy, above reproach, leave all, forget/press on, without anxiety, think on these things, imitate Paul, content, prepared.
