Dr. Andrew Wilson El principal tema del trabajo de mi vida ha sido la búsqueda de los valores universales. Soy el autor de "Las Escrituras Sagradas: Una Antología Comparativa de los Textos Sagrados”. This principle is made manifest when we examine how we pursue and attain happiness. Happiness occurs when we come in contact with objects that stimulate our desires and we allow these desires to be satisfied. We may identify two fundamental types of human desires that are seeking for objects: The desire to satisfy our physical needs and appetites is linked to material values. We seek for food, drink, clothing, and shelter. We want to live in a comfortable environment and enjoy pleasurable sensations. The desire to satisfy our spiritual needs and aspirations is linked to spiritual values. Thus, truth stimulates our intellectual desires, beauty stimulates our aesthetic desires, and goodness stimulates our moral desires. Complete happiness would be experienced through the harmonious union between the physical well-being that results from satisfying our physical desires and the spiritual fulfillment that comes from fulfilling our spiritual desires. The same principle can be applied to relations between organizations of citizens and their nation, and relations between nations and the world. As my family lives for the sake of society, the society prospers and my family shares in its prosperity. As organizations live for the sake of the nation, the nation prospers and so do all the organizations within it. As the nation lives for the sake of the world, the world's prosperity extends to all nations. This is the great circle of life-giving and receiving the energy of love. In a civil society the individual and collective purposes naturally support each other. The Cold War was a major conflict with ideological origins. Today, we are involved in what has been called the conflict of cultures. It appears that cultural differences, rooted in religion, may become the core cause of wars. The unresolved struggles in the Middle East, and the current wars against terrorism, have religious roots. It is therefore imperative that to resolve political conflicts, we need to address the religious component, and work to achieve interreligious and international cooperation.
