Direct Object Pronouns El Complemento Directo In this presentation we are going to look at another set of pronouns. To begin with, think of one way of completing each sentence: I saw _______. I ate ________. I drank ______. I met ________.

Direct objects Did you come up with something similar to these? I saw Mary. I ate the carrot. I drank a glass of Kool-Aid. I met your parents. Whatever you put into the blanks is a direct object.

Direct object pronouns Now lets substitute a pronoun for each noun. I saw Mary. >> I saw her. I ate the broccoli. >> I ate it. I drank a glass of Kool-Aid. >> I drank it. I met your parents. >> I met them.

Direct object pronouns Now lets substitute a pronoun for each noun. I saw Mary. >> I saw her. I ate the broccoli. >> I ate it. I drank a glass of Kool-Aid. >> I drank it. I met your parents. >> I met them.

¡La, lo las, los! ¿Dónde compraste el diccionario? >> Lo compré en la librería. ¿Dónde compraste tu blusa? >> La compré en la tienda de descuentos. ¿Dónde compraste los pantalones? >> Los compré en Macys. In each sentence, weve replaced a noun (diccionario, blusa, pantalones) with a pronoun (lo, la, los): el diccionario >> lo la blusa >> la los pantalones >> los

Note that we place the direct object pronoun in front of the verb, unlike in English. -¿Compras los pantalones? -Los compro. If the verb is negative, the pronoun is placed between no and the verb. -No los compro. When we have a verb followed by an infinitive, the DOP is usually placed right before the main verb. (Not the infinitive) or attach to the infinitive. - ¿Quieres comprar esos pantalones? - Si los quiero comprar - Si quiero comprarlos.

¡Vamos a practicar! -¿Dónde está mi cuaderno? -Aquí está -Ah, sí, ____ veo. Gracias. ____ dejaste [you left it] encima del escritiorio.

¡Qué bien! ¿Dónde está mi cuaderno? Ah, sí, lo veo. Gracias. el cuaderno > lo Lo dejaste encima del escritiorio.

¡Lo entiendo! ¡Me gusta tu vestido! Gracias. ¿Dónde ______ compraste? ____ compré en Gap. ¿Y cuánto pagasté? Pagué $20 dólares. ¡Qué ganga!

¿Qué tal lo hiciste? ¡Me gusta tu vestido! Gracias. ¿Dónde lo compraste? lo compré en Gap. ¿Y cuánto pagasté? Pagué $20 dólares. ¡Qué ganga!
