Remember that teachers and administrators have a lot to do, just like you. They do want to be aware your concerns. > Make an appointment for a special meeting with a school counselor or the principal to talk about your concerns. Remember to act respectfully and speak calmly. > If you do not agree with the decision that is made, you can appeal the decision. Y ou may not always agree with the school’s decision. By appealing a decision you are letting decision- makers know what you would prefer instead. > Speak with other parents and adults who can help you resolve your concern.

El Sistema Escolar de Carolina del Norte Sabías que… > Todo niño en edad escolar que viva en este país tiene derecho a recibir educación pública. > Si su niño no tiene número de seguro social, la escuela le asignará un número de identificación escolar. Este número NO es equivalente al del seguro social. > La ley de Carolina del Norte obliga que todos los niños (as) entre 5 y 16 años asistan a la escuela. > Las escuelas entregan reportes escolares cada 9 semanas. Sabías que… > Cada distrito escolar administra pruebas y exámenes para determinar el nivel de desempeño de los estudiantes. > A partir del tercer grado, los estudiantes también deben tomar las pruebas de final del año escolar (End of Grade Test or ECG). Las pruebas ECG son exigidas por el estado de Carolina del Norte. > A los estudiantes que todavía están aprendiendo inglés y que tienen menos de un año en la escuela NO se les exige tomar las pruebas de final del año escolar.

The North Carolina School System Did you know that… > All children over five years of age are entitled to a public school education in this country. > If your child does not have a social security number, the school can assign them a school identification number. This number is NOT the same as a social security number. > North Carolina law requires that all children 5 to 16 years of age attend school. > Schools are required to send home a report card every 9 weeks. Did you know that… > Each school district administers tests and exams to determine the grade level of the student. > Beginning in the third grade, students also must take an End of Grade Test to graduate to the next grade. These End of Grade Tests are mandated by the state of North Carolina. > Students that are still learning English and that have less than a year in the school where they attend are NOT required to take End of Grade Tests.
