El verbo “estar” Estar is an irregular verb. It means “to be” in English. It does NOT follow the pattern of regular –ar verbs. You MUST remember the conjugations of the verb! When writing, make sure to include the accent mark over all the forms except the “yo” and “nosotros” forms.

ESTAR (En español) Yo estoy Nosotros estamos Nosotras Tú estás Ud. Uds. están Él está Ellos Ella Ellas *Notice the required accent marks.

USES OF ESTAR Estar is used: To describe the location of someone or something. Examples: Samantha está en la clase de inglés. Samantha is in English class. Los libros están encima de la mesa. The books are on top of the table.

USES OF ESTAR Estar is also used: To tell how someone feels or the condition of something. Examples: Claudia está enferma. Claudia is sick. Esteban y tú están ocupados. Esteban and you are busy. Estoy bien. I am good.
